I have given everything I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place] all the meaning that it has for me.
I love to give things meaning. Or understanding. I’m a medical librarian for criminy sake. I love evidence.
But through the years as a researcher, I also became aware of a concept called confirmation bias. That place where we go looking for something to confirm it’s truth.
Aka: I believe all cows are spotted so I see spotted cows everywhere.
It happens all the time when your car shopping. You are looking at Nissan Altimas. So you see them everywhere on the road.
What does this mean for ACIM (A Course in Miracles) Lesson 2? That I often assign meaning to things that might not necessarily be true. Like my cow example. There are brown cows, black cows, even red cows. But as I only believe in spotted cows…well that might be the only color of cow I believe is actually a cow.
And therefore, I make my belief into my reality. Literally.
Lesson 2 asks us to choose again. To look for the cow color we may not know even exists right now. To keep an open mind. And to understand there is always more to learn than our own limited perceptions.
My take? See how many colors of cows you can discover today-literally and figuratively. Play with a believe or two that is contrary to what you have always known. And see if it resonates for you.
Lots of love & happy hunting Light Chasers!
