My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I behold.
During the holidays we often engage in a little gift exchange game. Perhaps you’ve heard of it. The infamous-white elephant exchange.
For the unfamiliar, a white elephant gift exchange involves (depending on your tradition) bringing a gift, drawing numbers, and picking a present in numerical order from the stash.
What’s interesting to me about the white elephant exchange is the packages participants initially choose.
I’ve noticed the first gifts chosen are usually the ones with the most elaborate gift wrapping. Those packaged prettily with lots of extra trappings. Wrapped with care. The irony is that the gifts packaged the best aren’t always the ones people end up loving the most.
My point?
The trappings don’t matter, dear friends. How the people in our lives are packaged is irrelevant. Whether they show their best faces on the outside. Or the worst.
We can choose to see them differently. As their Divine selves.
This can be particularly difficult during the holidays when we are in close quarters with those we aren’t normally engaged with. And while this doesn’t mean we loosen our necessary boundaries, it does mean we can relinquish any perceptions that our beloveds are outside of the love of God/Divine. This allows us to remember the sinless, everlasting Soul in the one beside us. A balm in times of conflict. A signpost on our road to peace.
Release. Allow. And see the undimmable light that passes all understanding in those around us this holiday season. Beyond any packaging they might wear on the outside.
Namaste LightWorker.
